Latency (AI)
The time between user input and AI response. For voice AI, sub-700ms total turn latency is the threshold for "feels human." For chat AI, under 2 seconds. Latency budget breaks down as: speech-to-text 150-300ms + LLM inference 200-400ms + text-to-speech 100-250ms + network 50-150ms. Anything slower compounds into "this is AI" detection and conversion drops 15-25%.
